Last year, we created a new website with the goal of increasing functionality. I'm not afraid to say that we failed miserably. Part of the issue was none of the leadership had experience with the type of interface used and when we got into the meat of it, we found that it was much harder to navigate, create and edit content then we had intended. One of the other issues was that it required significant administration to manage the multiple accounts to ensure that the website, domain and teamspeak stayed up and running.
A few weeks ago, we decided to look into one of the available online services that provided a "one-stop shop" for website management. Thanks to the valuable donation from Grenner, we were able to test out a few of the services and have settled on Enjin as our provider. The ease of use and functionality proved itself with the website you see before you. All of this was created within a week versus the year it took to get the previous website up and running.
What I like most about the website is that it allows us the opportunity to grow the site and add more functionality as our website admin skills improve, it has a built in Team Speak server, and it allows you the user to donate directly to keeping Team Speak and the website up and running. Oh and don't forget how easy it is to use!
Getting access to the website and the new Team Speak server will require you to register via an application. I know this may frustrate some of you, but really it's a relatively painless process and will ensure that we have an accurate count of the members of our community.
Once you register, a notification is sent out to all of the officers who then have the ability to approve your registration. Once your registration is approved, please log into Team Speak via the Team Speak module on the Homepage. An officer will then grant you TS permissions. You will be unable to access Team Speak if you have not registered for the website! This will allow us to properly give you the appropriate TS permissions as we have done away with the TS password and instead manage access via website permissions.
The functionality of the website has increased so much that you can expect additional new content weekly. The Shoutbox module is a great way to quickly chat about games we play, and the events page allows you to quickly see scheduled events. We've also added specific pages for the major games we are currently playing so that you can see game-specific news via the built-in RSS feeds! Clicking on the Twitch TV page will allow you to watch live streams from Memnoch's and the ASF Twitch TV Channels.
I encourage you to spend some time looking over the website and let us know what you think and suggestions via the forums or the contact us page.
